How to install downloaded locator files into your game.

Locator files aid the fast download of your skin to the other players in an online game who do not have your skin stored in their cache. The advantage is that you do not have all the other players using up your bandwidth as the locator file directs them to a remote website to download your skin and it will appear in the game almost immediately.

For this example the we will use "Fosters" skin for the "Offshore" class of boat. (see download help)

Download the locator file "offfosters.zip.loc" and place it tn into the same folder as the Fosters Offshore skin "offfosters.zip". That's it done! Note....Do not rename either file as locator file will then not work!.

 

 

Create your own Locator Files
What is a locator file?
This is a simple text file that is zipped and placed in same folder as its coresponding boat.
Locator Files redirect traffic directly to a copy of your skin located on the web.

How is it done?
1.Beg steal or borrow a place on a publicly accessable web site. By publicly accessable I mean that anyone can download your zip, ie. not password protected. See the section on Microsoft Office live beta below.
2Place your ********.zip on the site.
3Copy the full web address of the zip file. Paste it into your browser and see if it works, a pop up window should appear asking you do you want to open,save or cancel download of the file.
4.Open notepad paste in the full web adddress of your zip file.
5.Save the notepad file as exactly the same name as your boat. ie ********.zip.txt
6.Right click on the *******.zip.txt file and rename it *******.zip.loc. (you may have make file extensions visable to see this properly. Start> control pannel> folder options>View --then uncheck ‘Hide extensions for known file types’)
7.Place the locator *******.zip.Loc file alongside the skin *******.zip file in vsk and thats it done!

Fill in your details...See the picture

This will create a page in your website called "Sunrise" with your skin's zip...... and a locator file in the file of origin.
